Description:

The Production Engineering student will assist the Surmont (Oil Sands) Production Engineers and Artificial Lift Experts (Calgary/site/Houston) in the multiple aspects of pump design, optimization, failure analysis, and data analytics required to continuously progress our technology knowledge and reduce our operating costs. The Surmont Operations and Development teams are at the forefront of data analytics, industry knowledge sharing and operational efficiency. We are looking for an open-minded, curious, down-to-earth and analytical student, who is keen to work in a very integrated team in a fast-paced environment.

This position is a 16-month position, starting May 2019.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate to the Design, Installation, Optimization and Evaluation of Electro Submersible Pumps (ESPs) and Progressing Cavity Pumps (PCPs)

  • Develop Failure Databases for downhole equipment, including ESPs, PCPs, TDFCDs, Liners and Distributed Temperature Strings

  • Develop Reliability Analysis and Data Analytics Tools using Spotfire

  • Provide technical support (thermodynamics and heat transfer analyses) in special projects such as Slim-hole ESPs and Heating Idle ESPs

  • Develop understanding of heavy kill fluid performance based on available data (e.g. Geology, Completion, etc.). May require database development.

  • Reviewing wells for under-performance and implementing recommendations for improvement

  • Working closely with Completions and Field staff to implement day to day tasks and special project work

  • Presenting results of special project work to teams and management.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Petroleum Engineering

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

  • Available for a 16-month internship starting in May 2019

  • Proficient (ability to perform the skill with limited assistance) in Microsoft Products; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada on a regular full-time basis without restrictions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Petroleum Engineering
