Description

ConocoPhillips Canada is looking for two senior engineers with varying levels of experience and skills, both responsible for delivery of safe, reliable, fit for purpose, innovative and cost-effective designs, through oversight of discipline engineering personnel through all phases of the project life cycle, execution, start up an continuous operations.

Reporting to the Process Engineering Lead, these roles are accountable for:

1. Providing technical support to m any facets of the organization including Development, Capital Projects and the Surmont and Montney Operations teams; and

2. Providing technical support for the process engineering discipline primarily in the support of Surmont Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Promote, support and adhere to ConocoPhillips Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) management system. To ensure that HSE issues are given priority consideration in all activities.

  • Deputy lead role, providing functional leadership over select scopes of effort to ensure load-leveling amongst lead and peer group as asset activities fluctuate, with shared technical authority with Process Engineering Lead for process-related specifications and standards

  • Leadership of larger development studies and projects with occasional coverage of operational support as required / practical

  • Development of Scope of Work and Basis of Design documents for projects through networking amongst all functions in support of a future-proof Basis of Design.

  • Technical mentoring of junior staff and contractors within the process engineering group and greater peer group within the Canadian Business Unit (e.g. Operations, Development, etc.).

  • Oversee technical work within group, responsible for checking junior and peer calculations and studies and/or approving checked calculations – shared with Process Engineering Lead.

  • Perform/review project pre-feed studies (FEL 0 to FEL2), develop process configurations and support cost estimates.

  • Coordinate with subject matter experts (i.e. water specialists, flow assurance specialists, heat transfer specialists, vendors, etc.) to arrive at optimum solutions for technical issues.

  • Collaborate with Contact Engineers, Operations, Production Delivery Centre staff, and Facility Engineers to provide engineering assistance to plant and field operations including troubleshooting, conducting field tests, developing reports, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency or productivity.

  • Develop and review PFD’s, P&ID’s, Heat & Mass Balances, and other project related documents.

  • Provide process input in the development of operation, maintenance and start-up philosophies for new projects.

  • Coordination of Facility Siting Studies, HAZOP, LOPA and SIL reviews.

  • Responsible for care and custody of facility process models

  • Ensure ConocoPhillips Engineering & Safety Standards are adhered to in projects and operations.

  • Ensure project and operational compliance with governing codes and key recommended practices.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or alternatedegree with suitable demonstrated capability

  • Professional Engineer recognized by APEGA & EGBC, or eligible

  • 15 years’ experience in the Oil and Gas Industry as a Process orFacility Engineer

  • Experience working in an EPC environment in a principal/chief/leadcapacity

  • Strong commitment to safety and support of CPC core values.

  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision in the executionof their duties.

  • Exposure to Oil Sands related commercial space (blending, transport,etc.)

  • Strong PC skills (such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

  • Fluent in process engineering modelling tools such as HYSIS, HTRI, OLGA,PipeSim, Flarenet, etc.

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada ona full-time basis without restrictions

PreferredQualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability tocollaborate in a multidisciplinary team

  • Strong Facility and Pipeline knowledge over shale and/or SAGDdevelopments

  • Good understanding of well pad, water treatment, de-oiling, watertreating, and steam generation unit operations associated with SAGD assets

  • Good understanding of gas processing unit operations (inlet separation,amine sweetening, dehydration, stabilization, compression, fractionation, etc.)

  • Experience in hydraulic sizing (including multiphase), equipment sizing,relief system calculations

  • Familiar with fluid crude characterization techniques

  • Familiar with crude mixing viscosity and density nuances

  • Strong knowledge of field operations in Oil Sands (SAGD) assets

  • A self-starter, willing to work independently and across organizationalboundaries.

  • Detail orientated and committed to constant improvement.

  • Solid understanding of ConocoPhillips CPMS system and FEL process an asset.

  • Strong PC skills (such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
