ConocoPhillips Canada is recruiting a Process Safety Engineer to support the implementation and supervision of programs required to meet regulatory Process Safety requirements. This role interfaces with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Project Teams, Asset Integrity, Well Integrity, Drilling & Completions, and other stakeholders to ensure that process safety objectives are established, measure, reported, and investigated. This dynamic role provides an opportunity for travel to our field locations, and the challenge of supporting multiple work fronts and several initiatives.
This role is based out of the Calgary office on a 5/2 schedule.
Facilitate scenario based hazard assessment such as HAZOP and ‘What If’.
Perform and review supporting risk assessment calculations/activities including LOPA, SIL, Fire Protection, and Blast Protection studies.
Have experience in the design of process facilities and common hazard arising from the integration of disciplines which require consideration in facility hazard analysis.
Support and comply with the policies, goals, efforts, and programs of CPC's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System. Ensure HSE issues are given primary consideration in all activities undertaken within area of responsibility. Unsafe acts and/or conditions, no matter in what area of responsibility, are to be investigated / reported so corrective actions can be taken.
Facilitate/Lead Management of Change Risk reviews for proposed plant modifications.
Work closely with the Asset based Process Safety Assurance Leads to ensure effective programs are in place and continuous feedback is received with respect to procedures, policies, and incidents or initiatives.
Responsible for ensuring the Hazops for the facilities are kept updated.
Influence and educate other departments and Leaders on process safety to ensure program requirements are met.
Responsible for the implementation and compliance of the process safety programs as well as the associated policies, procedures, guidelines and forms.
Ensure any Intelex reported items are reviewed for potential process safety weak signals and also to ensure BU compliance with respect to Corporate Process Safety metrics reporting for incidents that exceed allowable thresholds.
Responsible for monitoring and reporting monthly process safety KPIs including Management and updating of the Process Safety Barrier Health Dashboard.
Maintain Oil Sands & Montney operational risk register(s)
Lead process safety projects/tasks as identified by Process Safety Supervisor
Ensuring the Risk assessment and PSSR elements of the MOC procedure are effectively implemented.
Collaborate towards monitoring and reporting the maintenance and compliance to identified Safe Operating Limits.
Ensure the consistent application of risk assessment and risk ranking across the BU.
Influence the training and competency of staff to ensure they have appropriate process safety knowledge needed to complete their required job duties.
Key contributor to investigations and responsible for tracking / ensuring implementation of mitigation as it is identified.
Participate in Knowledge Sharing throughout the Business Unit and within the Company through active participation in the Corporate Networks of Excellence.
Degree in Engineering, Registered or Eligible for registration with APEGA and EGBC.
Minimum 3 years of experience with process safety including experience facilitating HAZOP studies
Personal commitment to safety
Strong communication, interpersonal, teamwork and problem-solving skills
Ability and willingness to travel to Fort McMurray and Fort St. John for field site visits
Legally authorized to work in Canada on a regular full-time basis without restrictions
Degree in Chemical or Process Engineering along with associated working experience.
Ability to work independently and on a multi-disciplinary team
Experience developing SOLs
Experience with SIL verification and validation
Experience with PHAPro software
Understanding of Management of Change processes
