Description:

ConocoPhillips Canada is seeking two Senior Financial Analyst positions reporting to the Supervisor, Financial Accounting, Policy & Audit. This position is primarily a senior technical accounting role which will manage numerous unique, complex accounting related items, provide technical accounting guidance, and will be recognized as the subject matter expert in several complex areas. One of the positions is required to provide financial oversight on internal controls and work with members across the Finance organization and cross-functional teams like Supply Chain and Reserves.

Responsibilities:

  • Subject matter expert for technical accounting inquiries from within the Finance organization and other departments.

  • Liaise between local business unit and Houston policy for accounting policy interpretations and guidance.

  • Develop into a subject matter expert on complex, non-routine transactions, financial restructuring, debt, treasury related activity, entity set-up and dissolution, foreign currency, and other accounting related matters.

  • Provide expertise in areas such as revenue recognition, gain/loss calculations, pension, financial instruments, and other complex accounting topics.

  • Manage and oversee environmental, pension and quarterly review of accounting related issues reviews.

  • Provide guidance and recommendations on accounting treatment for new transactions, contracts, and business initiatives.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accounting implications are considered in decision-making processes.

  • Provide financial oversight on internal controls, working to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and maintaining a strong control environment.

  • Identify control gaps or weaknesses and collaborate with relevant teams to implement remediation measures.

  • Identify current risk environment and areas of concern to adequately plan & prepare annual schedule for review.

  • Provide oversight on internal controls through risk-based reviews/audits.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams like Supply Chain and Reserves to understand their financial requirements and provide support.

  • Identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes, systems, and controls for efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Participate in projects aimed at improving financial operations and reporting.

  • Manage and oversee various unique and complex accounting matters, ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting.

  • Research and analyze accounting standards and regulations to provide guidance on complex accounting issues.

  • Ensure proper application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant accounting standards.

  • Provide expertise in areas such as revenue recognition, lease accounting, financial instruments, and other complex accounting topics.

  • Review financial statements and disclosures to ensure accuracy and adherence to accounting policies.

  • Support in the financial assessment and evaluation of acquisitions & divestitures, land sales and other special requests and projects.

  • Key contributor working with the tax, legal, business development, commercial and planning groups, to initiate and record the appropriate entries for legal entity changes and restructuring. Review new agreements from a finance perspective.

Required Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in Finance or Accounting

  • Professional Accounting designation

  • Highly proficient in Excel and other Microsoft applications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects/priorities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with various teams

  • Ability to process multiple tasks concurrently, meet deadlines and set priorities to keep pace with a changing work environment

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada on a full-time basis without restrictions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Broad understanding of IFRS, US GAAP, external reporting policies and procedures

  • Work experience in upstream business environment

  • Audit experience

  • Ability to use influence and leadership skills to initiate actions, foster agreement and impact decisions

  • Respect for the importance of discretion when dealing with confidential information

  • Must be a key team player

  • Experience in Power Query, Power BI or other data management tools would be an asset

  • Working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA and Oracle EPM (FCCS) to input, analyze, validate and report on data without restrictions
