Employees across the globe focus on fulfilling our core SPIRIT Values of safety, people, integrity, responsibility, innovation and teamwork. And we apply the characteristics that define leadership excellence in how we engage each other, collaborate with our teams, and drive the business.
ConocoPhillips Alaska and its heritage companies have more than 50 years of business history in Alaska. As Alaska's largest oil and gas producer, the company produced an average 182 thousand barrels of oil and 9 million cubic feet of gas per day. ConocoPhillips, with about 1,100 Alaska employees, holds major ownership interests in the Prudhoe Bay Unit, the Kuparuk River Unit, and the Colville River Unit (Alpine). ConocoPhillips operates the Kuparuk and Alpine oil fields, has an ownership interest in the Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.
The GKA (Greater Kuparuk Area) CTD (Coiled Tubing Drilling) Development group is responsible for developing the structurally and stratigraphically complex Kuparuk reservoirs. Kuparuk is a giant, mature oil field that has been on production since 1982 and is the largest field that ConocoPhillips operates in Alaska. The Kuparuk reservoir alone has produced over 2.4 billion barrels of oil from sandstones deposited in a shallow marine environment. The Kuparuk River field is a combination structural and stratigraphic trap which has experienced at least five tectonic events. Structural compartmentalization plays an integral role in the reservoir behavior, and the associated development strategy. In addition to the in-situ complexity, the field also has a complex development history of water and gas injection, often via comingled wells. This, coupled with the structural/stratigraphic complexity of the reservoir, poses a continual challenge to the teams to identify economic drilling opportunities within the field.
For the past decade ConocoPhillips has operated a year-round fit-for-purpose Coil Tubing Drilling rig which sidetracks from existing wellbores to access additional resources. Typically, the rig executes between 15-20 wells per year within the Kuparuk reservoir. ConocoPhillips has over 180 Kuparuk locations within the long-term plan. In 2019 we tested CTD drilling within the West Sak reservoir we are beginning to test an exciting opportunity to ‘de-mingle’ our A & C patterns to maximize recovery. These field tests have the potential to add significantly to our portfolio.
The CTD program is a very compelling investment for ConocoPhillips. Since 2009 the Kuparuk CTD program has produced over 37 MMBO and currently contributes 18,000 BOPD which is approximately 25% of the total Kuparuk reservoir production.
Your responsibilities may include:
Coordinate and advance Kuparuk reservoir characterization efforts
Provide mentoring for the RE staff within the GKA Development Group
Build, history match and maintain simulation models for specific patterns, when appropriate
