ConocoPhillips Alaska and its heritage companies have more than 50 years of business history in Alaska. As Alaska's largest oil and gas producer, the company produced an average 182 thousand barrels of oil and 9 million cubic feet of gas per day. ConocoPhillips, with about 1,100 Alaska employees, holds major ownership interests in the Prudhoe Bay Unit, the Kuparuk River Unit, and the Colville River Unit (Alpine). ConocoPhillips operates the Kuparuk and Alpine oil fields, has an ownership interest in the Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet. The Commercial Consultant primarily supports the Western North Slope (WNS) Operations and Development planning and is responsible for conducting economic and commercial evaluations and providing results and strategic insights to Alaska Senior Management. The WNS area of Alaska is a significant potential growth area for ConocoPhillips and the Commercial Consultant position plays a key role in advancing major projects and other growth opportunities for the Alaska Region. This position reports to the Vice President, Strategy & Commercial in COP Alaska.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Collaborating with other Alaska S&PM team members, the WNS asset team and Commercial organizations to develop economic analysis and strategic guidance in support of business decision-making

  • Analyzing commercial terms and leading/supporting negotiations with other working interest owners

  • Negotiating with third parties for letters of non-objection, infrastructure sharing agreements, seawater services, telecom access, road/pad use, etc.

  • Evaluating acquisition and disposition opportunities and moving them through the corporate approval processes as appropriate

  • Decision and Risk Analysis -- providing facilitation and analysis for projects ranging from field development to North Slope seismic to permitting strategies

  • Preparing and delivering presentations and functional reviews for Alaska senior management

  • Providing facilitation/strategic consulting expertise to various teams throughout the ConocoPhillips Alaska organization

  • Supporting redetermination process by engaging with royalty owners and ensuring integrity of the Royalty Reconciliation Model



  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, economics, mathematics, finance, accounting or other related quantitative field or foreign equivalent

  • 5 years oil and gas experience

  • Intermediate commercial negotiating and/or economic evaluation experience

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel modeling and PowerPoint skills


  • MBA or graduate Finance degree or higher or foreign equivalent

  • Finance experience - business analyst / investment appraisal support roles

  • 1 year of experience with the Long Range Planning processes

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Demonstrated self-starter who is capable of working independently with high standards of performance

  • Proven continuous-improvement focused

  • Upstream / E&P experience

  • Facilitation and/or Decision & Risk Analysis training and experience including building decision trees and probabilistic models

  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what's right

  • Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical

  • Listens actively and invites new ideas for shared understanding, then influences and acts to drive positive performance and achieve results
