Job Summary

Alaska Overview

ConocoPhillips is Alaska’s largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1.2 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2022. The company produced an average of 200 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2022. ConocoPhillips has major ownership interests in two of North America’s largest legacy conventional oil fields, both located on Alaska’s North Slope: Kuparuk, which the company operates, and Prudhoe Bay. Additionally, ConocoPhillips operates several fields on the Western North Slope. The company has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.

Description

The Civil Structural Discipline Engineer will ensure that the structural design requirements for Alaska Capital Projects are met, and that the design is in accordance with AK BU Specifications and in compliance with regulatory and Company standards. Guide the design through the engineering phases of projects to ensure safety in design and operability.

Job Description

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Understand the project schedule and key milestones for assigned projects to provide technical assistance at appropriate time.

  • Support the established single concept as the project progresses through subsequent project phases.

  • Regulatory and Company compliance

  • Technical guidance and day-to-day contact with civil / structural discipline engineering contractor

  • Guide the development of the structural design premises to ensure safety in design, operability and inclusion of commonality and synergies of existing facilities modifications and new facilities and associated modifications

  • Work collaboratively with AK BU Technical Authorities to ensure adherence to AK BU Specifications and compliance with regulatory and Company standards

  • Provide advice and input to Facility Development Engineer (FDE) to support the single concept decision

  • Frame specifications and criteria deviations and seek TA approval on behalf of the project

  • Accept engineering deliverables

  • Review engineering drawings and relevant calculations and documents prepared by the engineering contractor as needed

  • Review structural stress and flexibility analyses performed by engineering contractor

  • Review Management of Change documentation

  • Work collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure inter-discipline coherence and experience transfer

  • Provide engineering support and data of existing facilities to engineering contractor

  • Participate in the project risk management process

  • Provide input to procurement process and evaluate quotes for structural components and mechanical equipment as needed

  • Participate in relevant Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)

  • Participate on the Incident Management Team as required and attend IMT Trainings and annual exercises

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or foreign equivalent

  • 5+ years structural design experience in the oil and gas industry.

  • Advanced level knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards including AISC, ASCE, and AWS codes; and DOT, ADEC, and SPCC regulations

  • Intermediate level knowledge of welding, metallurgy, and QA/QC methods

Preferred:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Alaska

  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what's right

  • Builds strong relationships based on trust and seeks opportunities to collaborate across the matrix/organizational boundaries to achieve business goals
