Job Summary:

The Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Analyst will be involved with and exposed to GIS applications, ArcGIS, ArcEnterprise, ETL Processes, SQL Querying, Digitizing hardware/software, projections, GIS data models, data formats, mapping, land descriptions, attribute data sources and formats, and indexing. Candidate must understand data administration & data management concepts and implement these concepts. The GIS Analyst supports and provides leadership, technical proficiency, analytical and business consulting to the other Property Maintenance (PM) Analysts, customers, and Land Administration Leadership. Independently, the Analyst leads projects (requirements, design, development, implementation, and training) in an efficient and effective manner to provide value and achieve established objectives within budgetary, policy, regulatory, and legal constraints.

Land Administration Overview

Land Administration is an exciting, functionally unique group. We are comprised of three primary asset regions: Permian Business Unit and Gulf Coast & Rockies Business Unit. Each asset is unique and provides opportunity for growth in skills and experience. When working in the Land Admin GIS group, your daily activities can vary depending on projects, time sensitive deadlines, and additional responsibilities that may arise. This gives way to an interesting and challenging environment pushing individuals to excel in their performance.

Land Administration is a leveraged, multi-functional organization responsible for establishing, maintaining, and protecting the legal ownership of real property assets for ConocoPhillips. We provide distinct value to the company through analyzing legal documents such as oil and gas leases, contracts, title opinions, and conveyance documents to establish and maintain joint venture and revenue ownership. We also field owner inquiries regarding lease interpretations, ownership interest calculations, payments, and transfer of ownership. Additionally, we maintain lease acquisition cost, and create visual representation through use of spatial data for both surface and mineral ownership to facilitate business decisions.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Keep current on GIS applications, technology, and data sources.

  • Providing technical support with GIS systems and related technology.

  • Providing GIS business advisement to Land Admin management, staff, and business partners

  • Provide mentorship and leadership in developing of GIS applications and best practices and data standards

  • Crafting and manipulating spatial data for a wide variety of business in a timely and accurate manner

  • Researching and resolving inquiries and requests for spatial information

  • Coordinating/leading GIS projects with customers

  • Assessing and adjusting to changing priorities

  • Researching spatial and attribute data and process issues for GIS applications, processes, and requests

  • Providing functional excellence mentorship by identifying value adding opportunities to apply GIS technology to everyday business issues

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer and/or education institution

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Business, or Management Information Systems (MIS) or foreign equivalent

  • Current level in college: Senior

  • Expected graduation date: Fall 2023 through Spring/Fall 2024

Preferred:

  • A minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

  • Past work experience as a summer intern or co-op participant

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products

  • 1+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry

  • 1+ years of experience working with legal descriptions

  • 1+ years of experience with Extract/Transform/Load Tools such as Safe Software’s Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) Software or ESRI Model Builder

  • Land record GIS Mapping experience

  • Legal description interpretation and analysis

  • Proficient (ability to perform the skill with limited assistance) in Microsoft Office

  • Working knowledge of Quorum Land Suite

  • Experience with Python scripting language

  • Experience with Safe Software’s Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) Software

  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills

  • Good interpersonal skills/standout colleague

  • Strong oral & written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize responsibilities
