The Global Wells organization of ConocoPhillips is accepting online applications for a Laboratory Technician. The successful candidate will be part of the Global Wells team and will provide support to the Drilling and Completions Laboratory in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The lab tests fluids, additives and chemicals used in ConocoPhillips' worldwide operations.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Maintaining safety as a top working priority

  • Working with bench-scale test equipment

  • Conducting lab-scale tests and simulations

  • QA/QC testing of vendor products and field drilling and completion fluids

  • Accurately Reporting data by documenting all experimental work in laboratory notebooks, technical reports and relevant electronic media

  • Monitoring test conditions and making corrections as needed

  • Maintaining customer, vendor and service provider relation through effective communications

  • Being self-motivated and self-directed in managing and prioritizing workload

  • Interfacing with Global Wells subject matter experts and support staff, business unit engineering and field personnel in an individual or team environment

  • Developing and maintaining safety documentation and participating in safety audits

  • Timely completion of assigned laboratory projects



  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Associate's degree in a science, technical or related field

  • 1 years of oilfield laboratory experience

  • Willingness and ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform/comply with the following:

  • Ascend and descend three flights of stairs

  • Work standing for a two hour period

  • Lift and position objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

  • Respond to sound and system fault light alarms

  • Manipulate high pressure gas cylinders, use a cylinder cart and attach a regulator to the cylinder using a wrench


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical field

  • 3 oilfield-related laboratory experience preferred, either industrial or academic

  • Strong and proactive approach to safety and a safe working record

  • Experience in programming data acquisition and control systems

  • Basic fabrication skills involving the use of tubing and fittings

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and team skills

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency including Microsoft Office products

  • Detail oriented and organized

  • Accountable and delivers on commitments

  • Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity

  • Available for occasional overtime on an as needed basis

  • Experience in oil and gas business

  • Experience in oilfield fluids testing

  • Experience with high pressure, high temperature test instruments

  • On a limited and infrequent basis, willingness to travel and perform rigsite or external lab work

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to delivering results while maintaining a safe environment

  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by proactively dealing with important problems, holding others accountable and standing up for what is right

  • Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
