The Buyer effectively ensures that materials and services are sourced and purchased in a manner that meets the expectations of a broad North America constituent base. Functional responsibility for the acquisition of materials and services for an assigned group of categories and suppliers using a standardized procurement process that meets business needs while adhering to Corporate standards and mitigating financial and liability risks.

This position can be based in either Houston, Texas or Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supply Chain Management (SCM): Purchase and make decisions that result in the optimal cost of ownership for materials and services, including:

  • Adherence to the GSS Standard Purchasing Process

  • Create purchase orders and work with expediting team to administer the lifecycle of a purchase order from requisition receipt to supplier payment

  • Select an appropriate source of supply

  • Determine the correct price that should be paid

  • Lead request for proposal (RFP) sourcing events

  • Effectively communicate with suppliers and client groups

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of assigned purchasing categories

  • Review and Concur Authority for Purchases up to $100,000

  • R2P: Represent and advocate on behalf of Global Shared Services regarding the optimal execution of the Requisition-to-Pay (R2P) process

  • Teamwork: Function as a key member of the Global Shared Services Purchasing Teams

  • Cost Control/Value Creation: Guide and direct client groups on how to effectively transact business with the Global Shared Services buying team

  • Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to facilitate supplier performance in support of operations

  • Compliance: Ensure all SCM services are conducted as per ConocoPhillips’ Supply Chain Policy, including all proper documentation, use of systems, approvals and communications



  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

  • 3 years of experience in purchasing or related field

  • Basic proficiency with SAP

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite


  • Advanced proficiency with SAP

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a Business, Supply Chain or related discipline or foreign equivalent

  • 3 years of experience related to the oil and gas industry

  • 5 years of experience in purchasing

  • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity to understand end-to-end purchasing processes and where value is created

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Internal and external networking skills

  • Ability to work with other functions; understand their business needs to effectively translate them into purchasing activity

  • Action oriented with proven analytical skills, and the ability to craft solutions to complex issues

  • Able to identify opportunities to improve processes, and propose paths to address them

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments with contending deadlines
