The Specialist’s main responsibility is to optimize the value of the company’s produced equity gas.
This is achieved by working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a reliable gas offtake and existing contracts are honored. As required the candidate will also negotiate new gas handling agreements. The Specialist also plays a key role in establishing and executing new and existing local and regional gas handling strategies.
The selected individual may be assigned to support any one of the Lower 48 Assets or operating areas depending on need and activity.
Maximize the volume and value of the COPC’s natural gas production by:
Establishing a good working relationship with both internal (Development, Exploration, Operations, Land, Legal, Accounting, Commercial Gas and NGLs) and external (third party downstream, midstream and upstream) business partners
Interfacing with Asset teams to develop or execute local and regional gas offtake strategies and influencing development plans to maximize overall value to the company
Understanding midstream technical and business needs of business unit Asset teams
Enforcing, managing and adding value to existing midstream contracts (gathering, processing, compression, treating, and sales)
Negotiating new midstream contracts (gathering, processing, compression, treating, and sales), including extensive contract drafting. The ability to identify and communicate alternative solutions to contentious issues is critical (influencing skills, conflict resolution).
Ensuring timely connection of COPC wells/batteries to midstream infrastructure
Acting as liaison between COPC Operations/Business Unit and midstream business partners during day to day operations of wells and infrastructure
Identifying and recommending opportunities to increase value
Experience with or confirmed ability to learn about handling sales of gas and NGL products
Good overview of the total hydrocarbon value chain (upstream, midstream and downstream)
Good to excellent analytical skills:
Ability to analyze complex gas and NGL contracts
Capable of developing economic models and making sound recommendations. This includes issues such as own vs. lease, capex vs. opex, financial commitment vs. security of offtake, high liquid recovery vs. associated fee, etc.
Capable of developing and executing negotiation strategies. Understands the total value chain to be able to recognize changing conditions and respond accordingly during negotiations.
Clear and concise communication skills are required to allow efficient dialogue between parties
Capable of understanding potential issues and drafting contract language to prevent operational or commercial surprises once the contract takes effect.
Operational acumen to identify cost effective propositions and options related to gathering system hydraulics, gas processing, level of gas contaminants, etc.
Self-motivated individual with an ability to take ownership of actions and drive issues to conclusion.
Basic / Required Qualifications:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Energy Commerce or related field
10 years of industry experience in natural gas production, gathering, compression, or processing
Experience in the negotiation of gathering, compression, processing, and/or treating agreements
Understanding of comparative gathering and processing economic analysis
Masters degree in Business
