The Great Plains Business Unit is developing long term growth plans to exploit the shale unconventional and conventional resource opportunities within the GPBU assets. Active development programs in our Bakken, Niobrara, and Permian basins are expected to grow to a combined production rate of over 200 mboed in the coming years.
The Systems Engineering Technician will report to the GPBU Discipline Engineering Supervisor and work under the guidance of the Discipline Engineers. The Systems Engineering Technician will be responsible for providing instrumentation and controls support for GPBU capital projects with a heavy emphasis on programming. The System Engineering Technician will support the engineering, commissioning, and startup phases of project execution. This support will be consistent with Company engineering standards, state and local requirements, and applicable industry codes. The position has excellent exposure to a variety of engineering and technical challenges that surround production field equipment in the Permian, Niobrara, and Bakken basins.
Responsibilities may include:
Provide IC&E support to the GPBU Projects team. This includes providing coordination between Project Engineers, contract engineering firms, Production Operations & Maintenance (O&M), Supply Chain, Commissioning, IT, and iOC teams.
Design remote terminal units and/or control systems for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications.
Program and develop automation and control systems including PLC and HMI programming.
Provide direction to third-party engineering contractors on the creation of wiring diagrams, grounding plans, electrical area classification, control cabinet layout, and instrumentation installation details, one-line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, cause and effect charts, P&IDs, programming templates, and other standard I&E deliverables.
Perform shop commissioning activities and functional acceptance testing.
Work in the field as-needed to support Construction, Commissioning, and Operations Teams. Provide support and warranty for new wells and facilities recently turned over to operations.
Assist with the development and maintenance of technical specifications and standards. Serve as a technical resource for the interpretation and implementation of relevant corporate engineering and industry standards.
Support consistent implementation of fit-for-purpose engineering and construction standards in the design, construction, and operation of well site facilities, pipelines, and central facilities.
Develop project scope involving Systems function of facilities and process equipment
Interface with the Systems Technicians and I&E Technicians assigned to various field locations to develop consistent programming practices and development throughout the business unit.
Legally authorized to work in the United States
5 years of engineering or operations experience in the oil and gas industry
Valid driver's license
Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time to both field locations and other office locations
Advanced level of knowledge of and ability to program Allen Bradley PLCs, Red Lions, Fisher ROCs, MODBUS communications, SCADAPack, MDS Radios and HMIs.
Advanced level of proficiency with IDEC HMI software WindI/O-NV2/3 and Biejer
Advanced level of proficiency with PLC programming software such as Allen Bradley RSLogix 500/5000, ROCLINK 800, Telepace
Strong commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
Ability to work in a team environment
Proficient understanding of upstream oil and gas processes – separation, compression, dehydration
Proficient with AutoCad
Familiarity with ISAGraph, Telepace, Cygnet Studio, Cygnet Explorer, FactoryTalk AssetCentre, Beijer HMI and iX Software.
Familiarity with basic networking protocols.
Working knowledge of instrument and electrical engineering standards (API, ISA, NEC, NFPA, ASME, etc.)
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to handle multiple tasks and efficiently prioritize work to meet deadlines
Ability to train and mentor Systems, Engineering and Operations staff
