Job Summary

The Global LNG team is tasked to optimise our global equity LNG portfolio and support our Joint Venture projects. Our core activities include developing new markets to support current and future LNG developments, sourcing LNG supplies, originating receiving terminal usage rights and term sales, trading short term and spot cargos. We also market certain excess JV volumes, provide negotiation support as well as second senior staff into those JVs. In addition, the team provides LNG related decision support to our corporate headquarters in Houston and global business units involved in the LNG value chain.

Based in London and reporting to the Senior LNG Trader, the LNG Trading Analyst, working within the global LNG analytics team, will support the London LNG Trading & Origination desk focusing on deal valuation, portfolio optimisation analysis, LNG terminal optimisation, deal capture and position management in EMEA. The role will also work closely with other internal functions on the development and implementation of tools and systems which support these responsibilities.

Position Overview

  • Perform deal valuation supporting both LNG origination and trading functions

  • Maintain and run global portfolio trading and optimisation models

  • Analyse trade data and performance metrics to evaluate trading strategies and optimise portfolio performance

  • Assist traders in developing and implementing trading strategies based on market insights and risk assessments

  • Assist in the execution of physical and financial LNG trades, including contract negotiation and trade documentation

  • Monitor and manage positions in the LNG market, tracking trade performance, market exposure, and risk metrics to ensure alignment with trading strategies and objectives

  • Support the development and enhancement of trading models, tools, and systems to improve trading efficiency and decision-making

  • Collaborate with internal teams, including risk management, operations, and finance, to ensure seamless trade execution and settlement

  • Prepare reports, presentations, and market updates for internal stakeholders, including senior management and trading teams

  • Stay updated on industry trends, market developments, and emerging technologies in the LNG trading space

  • Utilise programming skills, particularly in Python, to automate data analysis tasks, develop trading models, and enhance trading systems and tools. Additionally, leverage Power BI to create interactive dashboards and visualisations for monitoring trade performance and market trends

Competency Requirements

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (e.g. engineering and numerate degrees in science, economics, finance, or business)

  • Experience of working in energy trading, preferably in LNG or natural gas markets

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and draw actionable insights.

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint; able to build and operate financial / trading models

  • Team player with a collaborative and inclusive mindset

  • Familiarity with the energy industry, understanding its value chain and economic drivers

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt to changing market conditions

  • Willingness to travel as required

Preferred Skill and Experience

  • Experience of working in other energy commodities

  • Experience managing and optimising LNG terminal assets

  • Experience in the valuation of LNG related commercial agreements

  • Familiarity with trading platforms, market analysis tools, and risk management systems is a plus

  • Experience with Power BI to create interactive dashboards and visualisations for monitoring trade performance and market trends is a plus

  • Knowledge of quantitative methods and financial theories
