Position Summary:

Field HSE Specialists are an integrated member of the asset team and are critical to the safe and responsible delivery of production targets. They are responsible for identifying barriers to exceptional HSE performance, working within their sphere of influence to address these barriers, and/or elevating through the chain of command. The field HSE Specialist is a trusted advisor and interpreter for local leadership regarding HSE Management System compliance, reporting requirements, and accountability within the organization for incidents. The Field HSE Specialist performs multiple and varied HSER-related tasks with little to no supervision.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the HSE Management System

  • Accountable for accurate and timely reporting of incidents and near misses to meet the requirements. This includes all leading and lagging data such as near miss, injury, LOPC, PSE, LSR, audit findings, etc.

  • Partner with operations to utilize tools to inform the workforce of emerging trends identified in leading indicators

  • Participate in incident investigations, leading incident investigations, learning teams, and preparing findings suitable for management review

  • Act as a subject matter expert during field activities, ensuring compliance with procedures, LSR’s and OSHA, and promoting full implementation of programs

  • Accountable to plan, obtain and ship for analysis, Industrial Hygiene samples per the annual Exposure Assessment Plan and as needs arise.

  • Serve as asset SME for emergency response protocol and ICS roles during the initial response to an emergency. HSE Specialists must be trained to be able to apply ICS principles and responsibilities for emergency response personnel.

  • Participate in planning HSER auditing, whether it be preparing for an external audit, leading an internal BU or contractor audit, or acting as an SME for a PSSR or Focused Audit.

  • Support on-the-job safety meetings by providing assistance, direction and resource materials as needed, to enhance overall effectiveness and impact.



  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

  • 3 years Health, Safety, Environmental & Regulatory experience

  • 3 years of oil and gas industry experience


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety, Environmental Science, or related field

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or other certification

  • Excellent oral communication skills needed to interface with multiple clients

  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment to foster a zero incident culture

  • Ability to network and gain cooperation from members of other workgroups

  • Understanding of Federal and State health, safety and environmental standards applicable to the operations

  • Understanding of HSER and operations terminology

  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what's right

  • Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals

  • Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical

  • Listens actively and invites dialogue for shared understanding, then influences and acts to drive performance and achieve results
