Position Summary

The Business Development Analyst, primarily supports efforts the Permian Business Unit to plan and coordinate all activities associated with routine acreage swaps and asset acquisitions & dispositions. This role is focused on efficiently coordinating and communicating with all internal and external parties to efficiently execute strategic land trading activities. This role also supports the Business Development function by providing functional support in evaluation and execution of strategic transportation and storage assets.

If you are selected as the Business Development Analyst, you will need to be able to identify and track obligations, commitments, and opportunities. Additionally, you will conduct key financial analysis on market and transportation opportunities and develop supporting documents for developing internal Business Unit concurrence and Senior Management review and approval.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Track and plan M&A activities to ensure timely resolution

  • Work to advance trade activity by supporting Business Development, Land, Asset Teams, and Legal to acquire vital releases or assignments from crude oil gathering and purchasing agreements

  • Work with cross functional teams to analyze and evaluate A&D opportunities

  • Support development and implementation of marketing strategies

  • Support and coordinate efforts to identify, analyze, further develop, and establish marketing related opportunities

  • Work with existing regional crude Directors to identify any existing Commercial obligations or impediments to future Marketing Plans

  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry partners/customers to improve America's Crude and NGL marketing efforts and to provide market intelligence

  • Monitor and handle existing crude gathering, transportation, and sales contracts and obligations

  • Work with ConocoPhillips support groups (Legal, Finance, Insurance/Risk, Treasury) to progress 3rd Party commitments to completion

  • Assist in performing market and marketing analysis as needed/requested

  • Assist with completing routine and ad hoc market updates for management

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee

  • Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination, or ConocoPhillips approved accommodation, required.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Economics, Finance or other related field, or foreign equivalent

  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 10% of the time on a yearly basis

  • Current level in college: Senior or Graduate Student

  • Expected graduation date: Fall 2021 through Spring 2022


  • Master’s degree in Business, Economics or Finance

  • 3 years of experience with crude oil marketing, scheduling, or business development

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams and Word

  • Efficient coordination, interpersonal, team-working and written and verbal communication skills

  • Efficient analytical and problem resolution skills

  • Able to quickly grasp new concepts and apply knowledge to the solution of sophisticated problems

  • Willingness to challenge/improve on existing practices and processes and implement new initiatives
