Alaska Overview

ConocoPhillips is Alaska’s largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1.3 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2019. The company produced an average of 218 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2019. ConocoPhillips holds major ownership interests in the Prudhoe Bay Unit, the Kuparuk River Unit, and the Colville River Unit (Alpine). The company operates the Kuparuk and Alpine oil fields, has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.


The BEAR/SIM (Behaviors Eliminate All Risk/Safety-In-Motion) facilitator directs all aspects of the behavior-based safety process and Safety-in-Motion (SIM) workplace ergonomics process for a workforce of approximately 1,500 people, including: development and execution of training systems and content Behavior Based Safety (BBS), leadership, Incident Free Culture (IFC), Paperless Risk Evaluation Process (PREPAlaska), Learning Teams, steering team representation and special Health, Safety & Environmental focus topics. Leads meeting facilitation, mentoring of steering team members, managing data systems and analytics, reporting on the overall performance of BEAR, SIM, and other proactive safety measures. Effectively influences staff and team using effective goal setting and develops budget and manages costs to provide the resources for the Process.

The facilitator must have a thorough understanding of behavior-based safety theory and application, preferably as marketed by Behavioral Science Technology (BST), Inc. Certification as Safety-in-Motion trainer preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills are crucial. Must have demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Intelex, Power BI and expert at learning new software with knowledge of BST/DEKRA behavior-based software preferred.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Lead by example in an Incident-Free Culture

  • Maintain a high level of visibility, day-to-day, to enhance rapport with all personnel on behalf of the Behavior Based approach to safe work and the use of all proactive measures.

  • Actively engage employees and contractors, influencing to continuously improve HSE performance. Provides guidance, coaching and training to all levels of the organization.

  • Serve as the COP Kuparuk subject matter authority on Behavior Based Safety and Proactive Safety Measures. These include BBS, Life Saving Rules, Field verifications, PREPAlaska, Safety In Motion, Soft tissue injury prevention, Incident Free Culture training, Learning Organization activities.

  • Manage the BEAR staff, teams, and committees to create competent, engaged, and empowered team members to accomplish the process charter mission and HSE goals.

  • Develop training systems that support all aspects of proactive safety at Kuparuk to include Innovation, content creation, trainer management, delivery, and execution.

  • Manage the collection, compilation and database integrity for all Proactive Safety Measures and develop visualizations for consumers to enable analytics and insight to action cycles in the work crews to effect change. Provide analytics that compel HSE improve using leading indicators in the data.

  • Adhering to the Process charter, provide Innovation and vision to the teams, that anticipates cultural shifts and ensures the process’ effectiveness.

  • Manage budgeting and goal setting to support the processes effectiveness and mission achievement.



  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee or asylee

  • 5 years experience as a behavior-based safety facilitator.

  • 5 years of experience with public speaking

  • 1 years of experience training large groups

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Willing and able (with or without a reasonable accomodatoin) to travel up to 10% of the time

  • Willing and able to work (with or without a reasonable accomodation) to work a 14 days on, 14 days off schedule in a remote location


  • 5 years active participation in behavior-based safety and local BBS team membership

  • Behavior-based safety leadership training background with BST, DEKRA, SIM or Alaska Processes.

  • North Slope experience

  • Knowledge of the following systems/databases:

  • RINCON/Adaptive observation database

  • Intelex, Power BI, Spotfire proficiency

  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software.

  • Knowledge of OSHA Standards regarding work-related injuries and illnesses.

  • Leadership experience and strong interpersonal skills

  • Able to lead diverse teams effectively and create opportunities through problem solving techniques.

  • Listens actively and invites new ideas for shared understanding, then influences and acts to drive positive performance and achieve results

  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals

  • Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
